🌟 Fest-Noz
✨ Experience Brittany Culture in Christchurch! ✨
Calling all lovers of Celtic music and dance: the Alliance Française Christchurch has teamed up with Alice and Jessica from Bellbird Bakery for one very special evening that you don’t want to miss!
🌟 Fest-Noz: A Unique Evening of Dance and Music 🌟
A fest-noz is a traditional evening dance from Brittany, Western France, featuring live musicians. The dances are mostly group dances, and the event has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years.
Alice studied and lived in Brittany, where she fell in love with Breton music and dancing. Before moving to Aotearoa, she spent most
weekends dancing at fest-noz events. Jessica grew up near Nantes in historic Brittany and also loves dancing.
👣 Learn and Dance 👣
Alice and Jessica will start the evening by teaching the basic steps for dances commonly played in fest-noz (gavotte, andro, hanterdro, plinn…). After a break of cider and crepes, we’ll turn up the music and let you dance the evening away.
📅 Date and Time: Friday 16 August - 6:30PM
📍 Location: Irish Society Hall, 29 Domain Terrace, Spreydon
👟 What to Wear: Comfortable shoes and clothes (some prefer to dance barefoot). Be prepared to shed a few layers!
💵 What to Bring: Cash for cider and crepes.
We’re excited to bring this unique experience to Ōtautahi Christchurch. It will be a one-of-a-kind evening you won't want to miss! 🌟✨
