How it works

This placement test is a way for us to better understand your strengths and needs, so as to recommend the course best adapted to your current level.

Step 2: Chat with an expert teacher

This short conversation in French will help our teacher assess your speaking skills and place you in the right level. This chat can take place over the phone or in person.

Step 3: Register your class

After the evaluation is completed, the teacher will recommend a class and help you navigate your options.

What does my level mean?

At the Alliance Française Christchurch, we use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) which is the most recognised guideline used to describe the achievements of foreign language learners.

A1

For complete beginners and those with some basic knowledge.

Regular A1 courses or specialised classes throughout the year: Grammar, French Pronunciation, etc.
and DELF A1 Preparation

A2

For those with basic French knowledge, who can communicate in a simple way.

Regular A2 courses or specialised classes and DELF A2 Preparation

B1

For independent users who can maintain interactions.

Regular B1 courses, Conversation classes and DELF B1 Preparation

B2

For advanced speakers who can communicate spontaneously.

Regular B2 courses, Conversation classes and DELF B2 Preparation

C1

For people who can speak fluently and spontaneously.
